FAQs
Why should a minor get a minor’s license?
Minors from 12-17yrs old can get a Minor’s license. Why would they want one?
- They can be in possession of a firearm outside of direct and immediate supervision (eg: if they wanted to go hunting grouse on their own)
- They can purchase and be in possession of ammunition
- When they turn 18, they don’t have to re-take the course, just apply for their adult PAL license
Note: Minors can’t purchase firearms or do their Restricted course.
Is the course hard? What do I need to pass?
The course has a written and practical portion and you have to get above 80% on both to pass. If you pay attention during the class and make good use of the hands-on practical portion of the class, you’ll do fine.
Why get a Restricted license?
While it’s true that the purchase and transfer of handguns is prohibited at the moment, you may consider getting your restricted license if:
- You wish to purchase restricted rifles/shotguns (typically short barrel)
- You want to borrow handguns from a friend
- It is required for work or for a job application that requires it
- You just want to get it in case the law changes in the future
Payment, Cancellation and Refund Policy
Course fees must be paid up front with an EMT or via ticket purchase. Doing so allows us to staff the class appropriately, purchase course books, course reports, and other materials, and ensure we have enough students to run a course.
Course fees are non-refundable unless you give cancellation notice with at least 1 weeks notice or if I must cancel a class altogether.
We can move you to a different course date if given notice. eg: if you’re sick the day before and you send me an email or text letting me know you can’t make it, we’ll rebook you to another date that works.
No refunds for:
- Failing a course
- No show or being late
- Cheating during the test
